Report from the Principal – Bennington Elementary School

This school year has brought a number of personnel changes at Bennington Elementary School. We are pleased to welcome new faculty and staff members to the Bennington Elementary community, and wish the best to those who have chosen other opportunities to pursue.

During the past year we have made security improvements at the school. Our front entrance has been redesigned and has provided greater control in allowing access to the building. We appreciate the support you have provided in this change. Your cooperation has made a safer environment for our students and staff.

Along with the front entrance improvements, additional cameras have been installed inside & outside the school. This provides better monitoring capabilities for us, and contributes to the safe environment of the school.

Through your support we have been able to add additional technology for use by our students. All fifth grade students now have Chromebooks that are available to them for assignments throughout the day. With this additional technology, more students are now able to access electronic resources more quickly and more effectively.

These improvements are supporting our students as they face the challenges and expectations of the Twenty-First Century.

Over the past year we have developed our Green Mountain Star (GMS) plan for school effectiveness. This plan includes developing a fully functioning Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) for students. In brief, this system will help us provide support for all students using an organized set of protocols and procedures. These efforts will help students achieve greater success. Our plan also includes developing team structures, as well as regular use of data to support student achievement.

We have also explored our practices relating to School Wide Integrated Framework for Transformation (SWIFT) domains and features. SWIFT domains include Administrative Leadership, Multi-Tiered System of Support, Integrated Education Framework, Family and Community Engagement, and Inclusive Policy and Practice. These domains support the goals of our GMS plan, and work in conjunction with our school effectiveness efforts. As we integrate these principles into our practices we will make changes that will help our students achieve greater success. The district purchase and implementation of Go Math mathematics materials and our procedures for Math Fact Fluency are examples of our effectiveness efforts.

We continue to appreciate the support of the Bennington Elementary School Parent Teacher Group and the volunteers who contribute their time and energy in helping our students. They make a significant difference in our students’ lives. We greatly appreciate their efforts and their commitment to the school.

It is a privilege to serve as principal of Bennington Elementary and to work with the students, parents, school personnel, and members of the community in providing high quality educational programs to the children of Bennington.

Respectfully submitted,

James M. Law
