In addition to seeing individual students, I am providing a variety of different small groups for students. These groups focus on helping the children to express their thoughts and feelings, building self esteem, and developing improved social skills. I also have daily lunch groups with students so I can build relationships with them and to support them in building friendship skills. As specific needs develop with students, I am able to determine what services are appropriate. A child can be referred by a teacher, a parent, or self-referred. Any regular, formalized services to a child must always be approved by the parent.

This year, the Big Brother/Big Sister Program continues to be active at Bennington Elementary School. The program began in September and continues through May. We have approximately 24 students participating in this program on two different days at Southern Vermont College. Students are transported to the College, where they spend one to one time with their College mentor. Last year, the students participated in a very successful Bowlathon to help raise money for the program. This March, they will again be joining in this fun activity. In addition to the program at the College, additional students participate by meeting with mentors at lunch and by working in the classroom with College tutors.

This Spring, the school nurse and I will be coordinating a program for third and fourth grade girls called "Girls on the Run." This program combines exercise and good nutrition to foster healthy self-esteem. Look for more information to be coming home about this great opportunity.
